The 7th African Conference of Agricultural Economists (& 60th Annual AEASA Conference) in Durban, South Africa, was a resounding success. Held in September 2023, the conference attracted 362 participants, including agricultural economists, practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the continent. Focused on the central theme "Through Crisis: Building Resilient Agri-food Systems in Africa," the event fostered discussions on the challenges facing African agriculture and explored innovative solutions to build long-term resilience and promote sustainable food systems.


Extended 7th AAAE Mini-Conference 2024 Announcement:

For those unable to attend the Durban conference, the AAAE Executive Board has sanctioned an additional 7th AAAE Mini-conference in Nairobi. Scheduled for May 23-24, 2024, this event extends an invitation to all absentees from the South African conference to join in Nairobi.


Call for Papers:

The Durban conference accepted 352 papers, yet 150 remained un-presented, including 76 oral and 74 poster papers. The Nairobi mini-conference welcomes authors of these papers to present their research at this upcoming hybrid event.


Registration Details:

● In-person fee: $200 USD

Virtual fee: $100 USD

The fee encompasses the venue, meals, program, and virtual access. Registration is limited to 75 in-person participants on a first-come-first-serve basis, with virtual presentation options available for additional registrants.


Sponsorship Information:

AAAE will not offer sponsorships. However, students with sponsored tickets for the Durban event can have their flights redirected to Nairobi.



Kenya Visa Update:

Effective January 1, 2024, visitors can enter Kenya visa-free for up to 90 days for tourism or business. An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is required, obtainable exclusively through the official eTA portal (https://www.etakenya.go.ke/en/evisa.html). Applications should be submitted 72 hours before travel, with a fee of USD 100 plus a USD 1 service charge.



Accommodation Options:

Negotiated rates are available at Best Western, Fairview's sister hotel, at $100 per night, breakfast included. The Fairview Hotel offers rooms at $150 per night. Bookings can be made directly through the hotels' websites or platforms like Bookings.com.
